To help publishers perform normal system maintenance, the Pathways Database Publisher comes with a set of utilities that can be run from within the data maintenance system.  These utilities provide publishers an easy way to perform normal maintenance functions without requiring FoxPro expertise.

Re-index / Pack:  The Re-index/Pack utility allows publishers to pack or re-index all Pathways databases, or a select group of databases.   By packing databases, publishers can recover disk space that is being used for "deleted" records.  Once databases are "packed", the deleted records are no longer available, and the disk space is released for future use.

Batch Edit:  This utility may be run at any time to force all data to go through the same edits that are invoked by the on-line data maintenance system.  This utility is useful for editing data that has been converted to the Pathways system from outside sources.  It can also be used for data that has been manually manipulated from FoxPro, or by programs external to the Pathways system.  When the utility is run, publishers will be notified of any data that is unable to pass all edits.

DB Documentation Creation:  This Pathways utility is used by the system to allow it to self document any changes made to any database within the system. This utility may also be used to create documentation for any FoxPro databases that publishers have defined and added to the system.

Run Special:  This utility allows publishers to write their own programs or reports and run them directly from the Pathways data maintenance system.
