Data Importation: Using the importation modules, the Pathways system allows publishers
to import electronic data into their Pathways databases. This importation facility gives publishers an
easy way to convert data to the Pathways system from existing databases. It also provides a facility
that can be used to augment directory databases with electronic information from outside sources.

Questionnaire Generation: The Pathways software includes a full featured system for generation
of questionnaires to be used by publishers for information gathering. By developing a “template” or “recipe”
defining how information is to be presented, publishers can develop impressive questionnaires containing
information as published in previous year’s directories. The software provides two methods for generation
of questionnaires. The first method allows publishers to produce interface files for importation by a
desktop publisher. The second method allows publishers to print questionnaires directly from the Pathways
system without requiring a desktop publisher.

A Windows based system for response collection and data maintenance: The Pathways system includes
a comprehensive and easy to use Windows based data maintenance system. This one flexible data entry system
can be used by publishers to add, delete, maintain, or view all data associated with any of their publications.
Using a group of relational databases, the Pathways system allows publishers to capture and edit information
for even the most complex directory. Rigorous data editing is an integral part of the data entry system,
allowing publishers to be confident of the integrity of the data they publish.

Ad Tracking & Control: To help those publishers who include advertising information
in their directory products, the Pathways system includes a comprehensive facility for tracking and
controlling advertising. The system not only helps publishers keep track of advertising, it can
also help ensure the advertisements are placed in the proper location within the printed product.

DTP Interface for Page Production: Today, the power of desktop publishing can provide directory
publishers the opportunity to produce their printed pages in an unlimited number of formats without requiring
expensive programming. To take advantage of this power, the Pathways system includes a full featured
system for generation of desktop publishing interface files. These interface files will contain “markup”
information that will be acted upon by the selected desktop publishing software. Currently the Pathways
system supports many of the leading desktop publishers including Corel’s Ventura, Quark XPress, Adobe’s
PageMaker, and Framemaker.

Data Analysis & Reporting: To help publishers analyze and review the data being held in their
databases, the Pathways Database Publisher comes with a group of reports. These reports include statistical
information about the types of companies held in the database, as well as reports detailing the actual
information that is available for publication.

Database Marketing: Because database marketing is an important source of revenue for many directory
publishers, the Pathways Database Publisher includes a complete system for supporting database marketing
functions. The system is as easy as point & click, allowing publishers to effortlessly define the information
they would like selected from their databases. Once data is selected, the system gives publishers a wide
variety of output choices, including various mailing label formats, comma delimited file formats, SDF
fixed file formats, DBF’s, and many other common file formats.
